PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Alan Kaitz
Dear ALA Members,
I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the warm and sunny weather summer has blessed us with.
As you know, we are in the midst of our summer season, halfway between Memorial Day weekend and the 4th of July weekend. A lot has been happening around the lake, from ALA Day at Skypark last Saturday, to the installation of our new Rental Dock "A," which went into service last Monday.
Let's all give a big thank you to Bill and Michelle Johnson for hosting ALA Day at Skypark, this event was a tremendous success with over 360 members visiting the park. We also want to thank our dedicated staff, headed by Chandra Olivas, ALA’s Operations Administrator, who organized this fantastic event. It was such a great day we’re now planning on making this an annual event, for all members, their families and friends to enjoy.
Regarding our new Rental Dock "A,", it may have been a couple of weeks behind schedule, but those members lucky enough to now have their boats docked there are truly excited. I’m sure this short delay will fade away rapidly with all the trouble free good times ahead.
As mentioned in my earlier letters, ALA has made remarkable progress in long-overdue maintenance and repairs to all the other rental docks, not to mention all of our Courtesy Docks. I’m sure you will agree they have not looked this good in many years.
In our effort to save funds, we removed the 4th of July Flyover from this year’s 4 th of July festivities. Thanks to several of our wonderful members who have now stepped forward and independently funded this year's show, the show will go on. We truly have some amazing members.
I would also like to congratulate Sammie Rodela, Member Services, for being named June’s Employee of the Month. If you see her at the front desk, please give her a big congratulations for doing such an outstanding job.
Unfortunately, I have some tragic news to share. The ALA recently lost Kurt Zimmerman, our longest serving and one of our most respected committee members. His presence on the Finance Committee will be truly missed. His business and financial savvy is going to be extremely hard to replace.
The Board will be dedicating the bench outside the ALA office to Kurt for all his years of service. We have ordered a small plaque and once it arrives, we will have a small ceremony to remember all his years of service.
Warm regards,
Alan B. Kaitz
ALA President

ALA MEMBER DAY AT SKYPARK: A DAY TO REMEMBER!
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, SkyPark Santa’s Village was the place to be for ALA Members and their families. Over 360 members gathered to enjoy a day filled with fun and camaraderie. The weather was perfect, with just a hint of wind to keep things interesting, but it didn't stop anyone from having a fantastic time.
Musical Delight
A special thank you goes out to Adam Hurlbutt and Steve Devotion for their incredible musical performances. Their singing and guitar playing at St. Nick’s Patio added a delightful ambiance to the day.
Engaging with Service Providers
Our heartfelt gratitude extends to the Registered Service Providers who attended, ready to answer questions and showcase their services and products. We were pleased to have Arrowhead Docks Unlimited, Kiwi Dock Service, The BoatYard, and Topline RV and Marine on site. A special highlight was Topline RV and Marine's boat, which members could explore, adding an extra element of excitement to the day.
Exciting Raffle Prizes
Thank you to our generous Registered Service Providers for donating fantastic prizes for the raffle drawing. Arrowhead Docks Unlimited/Kiwi Dock Service contributed two One-Year Dock Watch Programs and a Bow Strap Replacement. The BoatYard offered three months of free boat winter storage. Flo Construction provided a delightful gift basket filled with goodies, including candies and tool sets. Topline RV and Marine donated ten fishing poles, while Inland Boat Center added Tackle Box Kits and ALA contributed their 2023 Fishing Derby hats. The grand raffle prize, an inflatable paddleboard with accessories, also came from Topline RV and Marine, making one lucky member's day!
Special Thanks
A big thank you to our MC for the opportunity drawing, Darren Diess, and his enthusiastic young ALA helpers. Their efforts made the raffle an engaging and enjoyable part of the day.
Finally, we extend our deepest appreciation to SkyPark for providing such a beautiful and fun-filled venue.
Until Next Year!
The success of ALA Member Day at SkyPark has us already looking forward to next year. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the day unforgettable. See you next year for another round of fun and festivities!

BUYING OR SELLING A BOAT?
Member Services Attention All ALA Members!
As the boating season gears up, we'd like to remind you of the importance of keeping us in the loop regarding any boat transactions within our community. Whether you're buying or selling a vessel to another ALA member, your cooperation helps us maintain accurate records in our database, ensuring a smoother renewal process for you in the upcoming seasons.
Stay in the Clear: Verify Boat Approval
Before sealing the deal on a motor or sailboat purchase, it's crucial to touch base with us at ALA to confirm its eligibility for registration on Lake Arrowhead. Our guidelines dictate that boats must adhere to certain specifications to ensure safety and compatibility with our regulations.
Remember, the length of your boat should measure under 26 feet in reality, disregarding any measurements listed in manufacturers' specifications or DMV paperwork.
How to Reach Us
Don't hesitate to get in touch with us before finalizing any boat transactions or registrations. Your proactive communication not only streamlines the process for you but also contributes to a well-organized and compliant boating community on Lake Arrowhead.
For any inquiries or updates regarding boat transactions, feel free to contact us at 909-337-2595.
Let's sail into this season smoothly, together!
THE CALIFORNIA BOATERS CARD
ABOUT THE CARD
The California Boater Card shows that its holder has successfully taken and passed a NASBLA/state approved boater safety education examination. In 2018, the California Boater Card program began the phase-in by age process for operators of motorized boats on state waterways.
In California, each year a new group is being added to those who are required to possess a valid card. By 2025, all persons who operate on California water ways will be required to have one. Once issued, the card remains valid for a boat operator's lifetime. California Harbors and Navigation Code Section678.11(b) contains the following phase-in schedule based on operator age.
January 1, 2024 |
Persons 60 Years of age or younger |
January 1, 2025 |
All persons regardless of age |
PLEASE NOTE, ALA will not issue a Lake Arrowhead Boaters License without a California Boaters Card if required.

MEMBER TO MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS

Dear ALA Member:
ALA is required by California law to provide ALA members with a way to communicate with the ALA membership on matters reasonably related to the member’s interest as a member of ALA. (Corporations Code 8330, et seq.)
ALA’s Bylaws at Article VII, Section I, Disclosure of Members’ Contact Information states:

However, to protect the confidentiality of member contact information, ALA has established a procedure whereby ALA will post the Requesting Members’ correspondence to the membership on the ALA website which is available for all ALA members to read. This procedure is offered as an alternative to providing the Requesting Member with the list of all ALA members’ names, addresses and email addresses.

By use of this procedure, the Requesting Member agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ALA and its Board of Directors, employees, and agents from any liability arising out of said use, including, but not limited to, the dissemination of any information alleged or determined to be defamatory.
